NZTA says Waioeka Gorge is expected to remain closed for about a month, possibly longer.
It follows a series of large slips almost a week ago.
NZTA said its priority is to get the gorge open as quickly as possible, but an assessment, based on discussions with contractors says the job will take a minimum of four weeks.
