The Waioeka Gorge between Opotiki and Gisborne has been officially reopened to traffic.
A section of State Highway Two shut a year ago due to major slips and it has been partially closed while contractors cleared large volumes of material.
The work has reduced the potential for further slips and road closures, with the addition of a rock fall barrier.
Tuhoe elders formally marked the completion of the project today with a blessing.
