A prominent Waikato principal has chosen to take leave while police investigate allegations he used school money to complete work on his own property.
It is understood the allegations stem from an invoice Hamilton's Fraser High School principal Martin Elliott sent to a builder for work on his property in Papamoa. The work was charged to FraserNet.
Mr Elliott maintains his actions were within his contract.
Fraser High School's Board of Trustees chairman Paul Willard says the principal has chosen to take leave, in the best interest of the school and the wider community.
He says Mr Elliot told the board he will vigorously defend the allegations.
