A recent spike in farm bike thefts in the Waikato region has sparked a police investigation.
Police were analysing reported offences to look for both investigative and prevention opportunities and encouraged rural communities to keep their property secure.
Theft of both two wheel and four wheel farm bikes had increased noticeably in the last two months, Waikato Police said.
"Police urge farmers and members of rural communities to check security measures on your property and always keep valuables locked away,' said Senior Sergeant Andrew Mortimore.
In the months of March and April 2015, 55 thefts of farm bikes were reported and the trend appeared to be continuing into May.
