Waihi farmers Alistair and Patricia Sharpe are the 2008 Meat and Wool New Zealand Steak of Origin Grand Champions.
From a record 300 entries, the Sharpes' Angus sirloin steak won them the supreme award.
They took away the Steak of Origin trophy, $6500 cash and other prizes.
At the grand final at the Beef Expo in Feilding yesterday, the top 16 steaks were tasted by a panel of judges.
They were rated on their aroma, juiciness, tenderness, texture and taste.
