A man in his 60s who died in a motor vehicle accident this morning was on his way to go fishing when the tractor he was using to tow a boat tipped over.
The man, who has a property on Waiheke Island, became trapped underneath the tractor and died at the scene.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Victoria Rd South, Onetangi, at 10.50am.
Fire brigade chief Ron Leonard said emergency services had now lifted the tractor with air bags and the man's body had been removed.
"He was towing his boat...he was obviously going fishing and something went array and... that is why the serious crash unit are down just to investigate what actually happened," Mr Leonard said.
