Wai Fong Lau died when her house collapsed in the earthquake.
In the days following the earthquake, 87-year-old's family from Hong Kong and Australia tried desperately to get in touch with her.
Relative Katie Lam wrote on a networking site: "Wai Fong Lau can't walk, her house was collapsed and she was alone in the house during the earthquake."
Ms Lam said her grand aunt had moved from Hong Kong to Australia and then later to Christchurch.
