Olympic team chef de mission Les Mills surprised nobody when he named Rob Waddell as New Zealand flag-bearer for Sunday night's Sydney Games closing ceremony.
Waddell is the country's only gold medallist in Sydney.
New Zealand also has three bronze medals, with an outside chance remaining of adding to the tally when Bruce Goodin contests the show jumping final on Sunday.
About 220 New Zealand athletes and officials plan to attend the closing ceremony in the Olympic Stadium, compared with 157 at the opening ceremony.
Waddell will march in with the other flag-bearers to a central spot in the stadium, then four gates will be opened to let all the teams pour in around them.
