It's likely about one million Kiwis and residents will have cast their votes by the time election morning begins tomorrow.
It continues a trend of voters turning out in greater numbers with 985,530 people already visiting the voting booth as of Friday lunchtime.
With Friday afternoon's voting still to be added to the tally, it's possible the number of early votes will climb above one million by election day.
This is significantly higher than the total number of advanced votes cast during the 2014 election (717,579), and almost three times higher than in 2011 (334,558), according to the Electoral Commission.
Thursday was the biggest day for voting with 178,785 voters having their say.
Chief electoral officer Alicia Wright on Thursday praised the turnout, saying voter enrolments were also up.
The latest enrolment figures show 3.2 million Kiwis and residents had registered to vote.
But with 340,409 eligible voters still to sign up, the Electoral Commission is reminding people it's not too late to register.
Those wishing to vote can download enrolment forms from the elections.org.nz website, which they can then fill out, scan and submit online.
This must be done before midnight Friday.
Come election day on Saturday, it will be too late for new voters to enrol.
For those voting on Saturday, the booths open between 9am-7pm.
