Volunteer firefighters took almost three hours to douse a large grass fire in South Wairarapa on Thursday.
Fire communications supervisor Carlos Dempsey said the blaze had broken out in vegetation on a Hinakura Rd property just after noon.
A fire crew from Martinborough was joined at the site of the blaze by firefighters from the Lake Ferry Rural Fire Party and the Carterton brigade water tanker.
He said the fire burned out a 50sq m area of grass and fire crews had taken close to three hours to quell the blaze because it had ignited on a ridgeline that was difficult to reach.
