A violent criminal will walk out of Mount Eden Prison this week to the frustration of one of his victims who are still suffering from the attack.
Arai Hema was jailed in 1999 for the attempted rape of a Napier teenager and the stabbing of an elderly neighbour.
Hema then attacked three Hawke's Bay Prison staff and later escaped from Auckland Prison at Paremoremo.
Former prison worker Hylton Smith was left with brain injuries following the assault and believes it's just a matter of time before Hema re-offends.
Hema can't re-enter Hawke's Bay as part of his parole conditions.
