A vineyard restaurant popular with the A-list is toasting the return of its hygiene A-grade.
Staff at Stonyridge on Waiheke Island were stunned to receive a D-rating from the Auckland City Council last month after an inspector raised concerns about the dishwashing area being "below standard", and the health risk posed by resident labrador Norton and cat Morris.
Jubilant owner Steve White last week told the Herald on Sunday the A-grade had been restored after an appeal to the council.
"The local inspector has been overruled, allowing Norton and Morris to remain on the premises.
"We finally found the warm, human side of the council at the highest level."
The restaurant was closed for renovations while the D-grade hung in shame.
It has reopened with its A-grade in pride of place and a new dishwashing area.
Stonyridge - which featured in a British newspaper's list of 10 must-visit wineries last year - has hosted actor Russell Crowe, Princess Michael of Kent and singer Alanis Morissette.
Closer to home, it is a favourite of former newsreader John Hawkesby and television host Brooke Howard-Smith, and a venue for dance parties and weddings.
