Video footage released in hit and run case

Auckland police hope newly released video footage will lead them to the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run in February.

Daniel Nathaniel John Guffogg was killed after he was struck while walking along State Highway 12 near Maungaturoto, in Northland, on February 26.

A police spokesman said police had been fortunate to obtain video footage of an area which showed all vehicles travelling on SH12 around the time of the incident.

Several people had already come forward and told police they were travelling in the area at the time.

Police were now concentrating on the eight vehicles which had not been accounted for and which were travelling between 3.30am and 5.00am when Mr Guffogg was struck.

Police said they were especially keen to speak to the driver of a white van -- which had a distinctive high top roof.

Drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were also encouraged to come forward so police could eliminate them from the investigation.

Police said Mr Guffogg's family urged the driver to come forward.
