A mother of two who defrauded a university of almost $500,000 has been granted home detention.
Rebekah Procter was sentenced to two years and five months jail in July, for scamming Victoria University out of $481,000.
But her lawyer Elizabeth Hall appealed that sentence, arguing the mother of two should be home with her children, and home detention would give her more opportunities to make reparations.
Today in the High Court in Wellington, Justice Helen Cull agreed to that request.
Procter stood emotionless as the sentence was changed to 12 months' home detention, 100 hours' community work, and a special condition to undergo counselling.
