Police in Christchurch were kept busy overnight with two serious attacks.
A man will have surgery tonight after a fight in the central city about 4am.
Police said the man in his 30s suffered arm injuries, thought to be inflicted with a knife, during an altercation with another man at a property near the intersection of Hereford Street and Fitzgerald Ave.
The injuries were not life-threatening.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested said investigators are speaking to those involved but no arrests had yet been made.
