"It was very frightening, and it was a horrible thing to do to someone," she said.
"It wasn't as if I provoked him and it was very violent, and for what he took it wasn't worth it."
The woman, who did not want to be named and provided her comments through police, said she could not remember everything, "but I do remember just screaming at him to getout".
Her injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening but she is now recovering.
"Two months of my life have been taken away," she said. "I'm still off work at the moment.
"I'm confident that I'll be 100 per cent again sooner or later, but at the moment I'm focused on getting better and am hoping to get back to work soon for short periods."
But the ordeal has left internal scars.
"It's left me feeling quite anxious," she said. "Before I wouldn't have thought anything of walking to the dairy at night to get something, now I'm quite aware of being alone by myself at night-time."
Less than an hour after she was beaten, a man and a woman arrived at the Z service station in Royal Oak.
They were driving an allegedly stolen Isuzu Bighorn, which was later found abandoned in Otahuhu. The woman then allegedly attempted to use the victim's stolen credit card.
