A Dargaville woman who seriously injured the passenger of a car she hit while drink-driving has been spared a prison term, partly because the victim did not want her jailed.
In Dargaville District Court, Deborah Kathleen Eveleigh, 39, was sentenced to five months' home detention.
The injured woman suffered a perforated bowel and extensive injuries to her hip, chest and stomach and permanent damage to her hand.
Judge John McDonald said: "The victim doesn't want you to go to jail, she just wants you to get help."
