Victim of savage street attack in Lower Hutt unlikely to survive, say police

A 21-year-old man beaten in a savage street attack in Lower Hutt is unlikely to survive.

Talosaga Terry David Moreli, 27, appeared at the Hutt Valley District Court today facing two charges of assaulting two men.

Police said the victim was attending a 21st birthday party in Cleland Cres in Naenae when he was chased by a group then assaulted.

He was found unconscious at 3.27am on Sunday morning on nearby Seddon St with a severe head injury and transported to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said he was in the intensive care unit and unlikely to survive.

Hutt Valley detective senior sergeant Glen Barnett said about 30 people attended the party and police were currently seeking witnesses.

Moreli will remain in custody until his next appearance next month.
