KEY POINTS:
Three flatmates were rounded up and held at gunpoint in a bedroom during a daylight home invasion in Auckland.
One of the flatmates - a 42-year-old man - was hit on the head with the butt of a rifle and required stitches.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Baldwin said police were looking for two men in connection with the incident, which happened in Moa Rd, Pt Chevalier, on Sunday between 3.30pm and 4pm.
The two men took a silver 1996 Mazda Familia (registration number BLS274) and personal items.
Police are appealing to the public for sightings of the men or car.
They warn that the robbers are armed and dangerous - and should not be approached.
Mr Baldwin said one of the flatmates, a 25-year-old woman, arrived home and was unpacking her groceries when she saw one of the offenders.
"He confronted her. She was taken to the bedroom where the other two [male flatmates] were being held at gunpoint."
The robbers stole some property and money, then left.
Mr Baldwin said the flatmates were alarmed and distressed by the raid.
"The offenders are bold, aggressive and violent. They are dangerous men."
The gunman is described as a Maori or Pacific Islander, aged 25 to 32, about 1.8m tall, of stocky build, with short black hair and big, puffy eyes.
The second man is described as a Maori or Islander of a similar age, 2.02m tall and of heavy build. He is said to have a big, round face, a shaved head and possibly a goatee.
"With his height he will stand out," Mr Baldwin said of the second robber.
"He's certainly distinctive and we hope somebody recognises him from that description."
He said it was possible there were other offenders.
