Northland police are investigating a series of vicious assaults which have resulted in two people being hospitalised with serious injuries.
A 38-year-old man is recovering in Whangarei hospital after one of his Achilles' tendons was severed during a violent assault in Kaikohe over the weekend.
A Kerikeri woman is in hospital after sustaining a broken leg and facial injuries during a domestic assault on Sunday.
Kaikohe police yesterday arrested and charged a 35-year-old man with assault with a weapon in relation to the Kaikohe attack.
Senior Sergeant Justin Rogers said the victim had a large gash to his lower leg as a result of his injuries. He was taken to Bay of Islands Hospital and then Whangarei Hospital, where he had an operation on his leg."
The man was involved in an altercation at the address and was hit with a sharp object, severing his Achilles tendon.
Meanwhile, police are searching for a man in relation to the Kerikeri assault.
The prolonged assault took place at a private residence in Kerikeri between 3 and 4pm on Sunday, Sergeant Peter Masters said.
