Vets help Wairarapa SPCA after theft

HELP AT HAND: Chapel St vets will donate the amount of money stolen from Wairarapa SPCA.

The Chapel St Vets have pledged to donate to the Wairarapa SPCA the amount of money stolen from their premises on the weekend.

SPCA staff discovered on Monday morning their money from Sunday's Children's Day fundraiser - $730 - had been taken. A window had been forced open and the till raided.

Chairman Rob Sewell said staff were "gutted" by the theft.

Stu Bruere, owner of Chapel St Vets, read about the SPCA's misfortune on Facebook and in the Wairarapa Times-Age.

"They are an organisation that is important in our society.

"We will help them out."

He said he felt "a bit bad" he hadn't been at the Children's Day event, opting for a World Cup Cricket seat in Wellington.

"So I thought we would give them a hand here."

He said he had not yet told Mr Sewell the good news and the Times-Age was not able to contact Mr Sewell yesterday.
