The veterans group take the limelight this week as, on Tuesday, March 7, they played the first round of their Autumn Cup.
The Autumn Cup is a best three of four stableford rounds competition.
In winds which seemed to range between severe gale and hurricane, Frank Delaney made light of the conditions to return a stableford total of 44 points.
Both Ray White and Mike Newport scored 38 while Graham Steffert filled fourth place with his score of 37.
Cyril Burling and Hugh Ryan both returned 34 point scores and Jim Douglas completed the prize list with his score of 33.
SATURDAY:
There was no play for Carterton members last Saturday, March 4, as six teams competing in the 36 hole, third division, interclub competition played their matches on the course.
The weather was bordering on unplayable and one could only feel sorry for the interclub players having to compete in such trying conditions.
SUNDAY:
The Carterton Marquis Shield team was engaged with Masterton at Eketahuna on Sunday, March 8 and ran out winners of the round by a score of 8? to 3?.
The Carterton team is now a narrow leader in this competition, but, of course, there are still three rounds to be played.
The club competition was a stroke round in which Greg Mullis took the honours with his nett 67.
Peter Mallitte was just one shot off the pace in second place with George Rink, on an identical score, filling third slot.
Three players ? David Ross, Greg Mullis and Matt Casey ? achieved holes in two.
WOMEN ? WEDNESDAY:
The women of the club played a stableford round on Wednesday, March 1, with a mixed, random draw.
Winner of the day was Val Willis with 38 points, just one point clear of Verna Parker in second place.
Kathleen Gordon filled third place with 36 points, from both Margaret Bradshaw and Sue Braiden on 35
Corrie van Zanten completed the prize winners with her score of 34 points, but only on countback from Jenny Duggan.
Long driving competitions were won, in the silver division, by Vicki Bain, in the Bronze 1 division by Margaret Bradshaw and in the bronze 2 division by Janet Pincock.
The "All Teed Up" prize for the day went to Barbara Birchall.
FOOTNOTE:
It was, perhaps, just as well that interclub took over the Carterton course last Saturday.
Given the conditions which pounded the district for almost the whole day it is doubtful if any club members would have turned out for a club competition.
And, of course, this is usually the time of the year when the weather can be counted on to be settled and warm!
