A Waikato vet is seriously ill in Auckland Hospital after being kicked in the face by a horse while performing artificial insemination on the animal yesterday.
The accident happened at Kiwitahi, between Matamata and Morrinsville.
The Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance responded to the farm accident, with St John paramedics in attendance.
The vet suffered serious head injuries and was initially flown by helicopter to Waikato Hospital.
After assessment at Waikato hospital the patient was transferred by air to Auckland hospital for specialist treatment.
