KEY POINTS:
Tony Veitch is discussing a return to sports broadcasting, possibly even before the court case over his alleged assault of his former partner is finished.
Veitch has been talking to RadioWorks talk-radio programmer Mitch Harris about a comeback, on the sport and racing station B-Sport.
And Harris is not ruling out a radio role for Veitch before he has dealt with the six charges of assaulting Kristin Dunne-Powell and one of injuring with reckless disregard.
Veitch has been absent from radio and television broadcasting since allegations that he abused Ms Dunne-Powell were made public.
Mr Harris said yesterday that he and Veitch had met a couple of times, including on Tuesday at a Grey Lynn restaurant where he told Veitch, "I'd love to have you on board."
Mr Harris, who heads B-Sport and RadioLive, said that he had not yet made an offer and he would prefer to wait until Veitch's trial was over.
"But I feel a bit sorry for him. I'm staying in contact and talking with him, but I have not offered him anything.
"I was thinking about getting him back to do some reporting as a journalist at B-sport - he is a good journalist.
"But I would not put him in a frontline position."
He thought Veitch would be interested in such an offer.
Asked if he would look at a role for Veitch only after the assault charges were dealt with, Mr Harris said: "The trouble is that he does not know when it is going to go to court. It could drag on for a year or two."
He would also have to think about that, and about how hiring Veitch would be viewed by other people working at the station.
