KEY POINTS:
Former sports broadcaster and personality Tony Veitch briefly appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning.
Veitch is facing six charges of assault against his former partner Kristin Dunne-Powell and one count of injuring with reckless disregard.
Veitch's lawyer Stuart Grieve said Crown lawyers had indicated to him that evidence from 19 witnesses would be presented at a depositions hearing to determine whether Veitch goes to trial.
Mr Grieve told the court he expected the depositions hearing to last two weeks.
He successfully applied for a ruling that a District Court judge preside over the depositions hearing and not a Justice of the Peace, citing "excessive media attention".
Veitch is on bail and will next appear on Wednesday when a date for his depositions trial is due to be set down.
Veitch resigned from his jobs at Radio Sport and Television New Zealand after allegations that he assaulted Dunne-Powell were raised by the media in July.
