A dispute between the University of Auckland and the Association of University Staff has been referred to the Employment Court after failed mediation.
The association alleges Vice-Chancellor Stuart McCutcheon refused to participate in multi-employment agreements while offering non-union staff a 4.5 per cent salary increase.
They also allege he is undermining the bargaining process.
The association has sought an urgent hearing with the Employment Court and is awaiting a hearing date.
