Varsity $11m in the black

University of Canterbury students are shocked that the university is forecasting an $11.4 million surplus just after raising fees 5 per cent for next year.

University of Canterbury Students Association president George Hampton said the surplus flew in the face of administrators' claims that the fee increases were needed to maintain financial viability.
