KEY POINTS:
Hastings police are looking for vandals who destroyed up 30 young trees in a Hastings park early today before wrecking a car.
An unknown number of vandals fled the park before police arrived to find a 1990s model Subaru Legacy station wagon wedged in the side of the Flaxmere Baptist Church shortly after 5am.
Senior Sergeant Bob Gordon said the car had been seen tearing up the grass on Flaxmere Park and bowling 30 young trees.
Mr Gordon said the car, which would probably be written off, was thought to have been stolen and would be tested for fingerprints and DNA samples today.
Anyone who had seen the car or its occupants should contact Hastings police.
