Wairarapa's Katherine van Woerkom was named most valuable player for the New Zealand Tiger Turf under-18 women's hockey team after their four-test series with the United States under-21s at the Papatoetoe Sports Centre last week.
Playing at central defender van Woerkom also had the distinction of being chosen as player of the match in the last of the four games, three of which were won by the United States after the Kiwis had taken out the opener 2-1.
United States levelled things up with a 6-0 second test win and went on to win the third 4-3 and the fourth 5-2.
The consistent van Woerkom was joined in the team by a second Wairarapa player, Morgan Percy, who also made a strong impression and there would have been a third but for Megan Hull having to withdraw.
