Outstanding Wairarapa breaststroker Neil Van Wijk has turned in two gold medal winning performances at the New Zealand spring swimming championships at Mt Maunganui..
Van Wijk ,15, of the Carterton club, won the final of the boys 15yrs and under event on Monday in 1min 5.02secs with Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana'e, of Howick-Pakuranga, second in 1.06.39 and Shaquille Vaotu'ua, of Onehunga, third in 1.07.61.
And yesterday he won the 200m breaststroke title in his age group in 2min 24.29secs with Andrew McEwan, of Central City second in 2.26.17 and Tuifana'e third in 2.27.15. Sixth in 2.34.09 was Isaac Foote, of Masterton.
Also representing Wairarapa at Mount Maunganui this week are two other members of the Carterton club in Katrina Simmonds and Grace Hammond.
