Chanel College students Neil van Wijk and Isaac Foote provided the highlights of a strong Wairarapa performance at the New Zealand College Games swimming championships held in Hamilton over weekend.
The two national age group representatives were gold medal winners, van Wijk in the boys 15yrs 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events and Foote in the boys 15yrs 100m butterfly.
Foote also displayed his versatility by taking out the silver medal in his 200m breaststroke and 50m butterfly events and a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley.
For van Wijk, whose winning efforts all came in record times for the College Games which are held every four years, it was his last appearance for Chanel as he is transferring to Makoura College next year.
Talia Hullena (St Matthew's Collegiate) was a silver medallist in the 14yrs and
under 200m backstroke final, Grace Hammond (Kuranui) was also a silver medallist in the girls 14yrs and under 100m freestyle and Hamish
Hammond (Rathkeale) was third in his boys 16yrs and over 100m backstroke.

Neil van Wijk (Chanel): 1st in boys 15yrs 50m breaststroke in 32.02secs, 1st in 100m breaststroke in 1.10.00, 1st in 200m breaststroke 2.32.73.
Isaac Foote (Chanel): 1st in boys 15yrs 100m butterfly in 1.02.47, 2nd in 200m breaststroke in 2..38.14, 2nd in 50m butterfly in 28.51, 3rd in 200m individual medley in 2.19.64, 4th in 200m freestyle in 2.04.59, 7th in open 400m freestyle in 4.25.20.
Talia Hullena (St Matthew's): 2nd in girls 14yrs 200m backstroke in 2.34.98, 7th in 100m backstroke in 1.13.29, 5th in 100m breaststroke in 1.26.26, 8th in 200m individual medley in 2.44.97, 5th in 50m breaststroke in 38.45.
Grace Hammond (Kuranui): 2nd in girls 14yrs and under 100m freestyle in 1.02.21, 5th in 50m freestyle in 29.19, 7th in 200m individual medley in 2.44.81.
Hamish Hammond (Rathkeale): 3rd in boys 16yrs and under 100m backstroke in 1.04.55, 5th in 50m backstroke in 30.38secs, 8th in 100m freestyle in 58.86.
Hannah Hammond (Kuranui): 5th in boys 14yrs and under 200m breaststroke in 3.01.22.
Tessa Foote (Chanel): 7th in girls 14yrs and under 200m breaststroke in 3.09.82, 8th in 100m butterfly in 1.20.97.
Bailey Peterson (Makoura): 5th in girls 14yrs and under 200m backstroke in 2.38.31.
Tara Field (Chanel): 8th in girls 14yrs and under 200m backstroke in 2.47.60, 6th in 50m backstroke in 35.04.
Ben Ruback (Chanel): 4th in boys 14yrs and under 200m backstroke in 2.31.65.
