A van carrying seven occupants and a fully laden logging truck collided in Kaingaroa this morning.
The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched just after 7am to Kaingaroa forest.
A Police Northern Communications spokesman said the crash happened on Middle Rd and police were called to the scene at 6.40am.
Miraculously only the van driver was seriously injured, five of the other occupants received only cuts and abrasions and the sixth person received serious head lacerations.
The van driver, a 48 year old Minginui resident, received serious multiple injuries to his right leg and both arms, he was stabilised at the scene by St John ambulance staff before being flown to Waikato hospital in a serious condition.
