KEY POINTS:
It's supposed to be a day of love but Auckland florist Milly Perkins had her heart broken this morning by vandals who glued shut the locks of her shop.
Ms Perkins, of Millys Flowers in Orakei, arrived at the store at 6.30am for her biggest day of the year.
"I couldn't put my key in the door hole and realised it had been superglued or bonded," she said.
Ms Perkins understood two other florists - one in Parnell and the other in Remuera - had also been hit in the St Valentine's Day spree.
"I had 13 bouquets to be picked up at 7.30am and I had to turn guys away," she said.
She said it did break her heart, but the feeling was "more a bit of anger and disappointment that someone gets a thrill of screwing up your biggest day".
Ms Perkins was at the Coates Ave store preparing until midnight last night.
She had so many orders her identical twin sister Mandy Perkins took leave from work to help.
"I was going to stay the night - I had so many more to do," she said. "I thought "no, I'll go home, have a shower, come back'."
A builder and locksmith eventually got into the store by cutting through the mechanism with a grinder.
Ms Perkins faced a $600 repair bill but was too busy today to think about it.
"We've got video surveillance and we'll look through it at some stage but because we are so far behind now with orders, I won't even look at it until tonight."
