A Mill St resident is being offered a stay in a two-bedroom apartment in Hamilton in exchange for leaving his noisy home on the V8 track.
A looming court hearing to stop next weekend's ITM 400 has prompted V8 Supercars Australia to offer Paul Smart and his family one of two two-bedroom apartments in Hamilton for four nights in "good faith" because the claim showed they could not afford to go away.
The family live beside the run-off area on the V8 track and during the event have to access their house through a padlocked gate. The family sought an injunction on the grounds of the event being a nuisance but have since withdrawn it after accepting V8SC's offer to contribute to alternative local accommodation.
The offer is a far cry from the deal between Mr Smart and the previous promoter valued at $15,000 which included flights and accommodation in Australia for him, his partner, Odette Haitana, and two children.
V8 Supercars said it would seek costs if the application was not withdrawn. The family's claims of $50,0000 in damages for last year's event would still be active.
