Information on the "window cards" that have to be displayed on used cars for sale is being reviewed and the Government wants feedback from buyers about what they think should be shown on them.
Consumer Affairs Minister Judith Tizard said motor vehicles were often one of the biggest financial commitments people made, and they should receive "useful and accurate information" before making decisions.
She said the window card, otherwise known as the Supplier Information Notice or SIN card, provided information about the car's "birthday", import history, mileage, accident record, the fuel it used, warrant of fitness and licensing details. The Government wanted to know whether the SIN cards were meeting consumers' demands.
"Is the right information being provided? Is there too much or too little information? Is there alternative information consumers would like to see?"
Ms Tizard said in a statement at the weekend she would also like to know whether buyers thought fuel efficiency information should be on the cards.
