Prime Minister John Key says the Government will back down on the new Super City boundaries for Rodney and Franklin if there is enough of a community uprising.
Mr Key said he would be happy to overrule the recent decision to divide north Rodney and south Franklin from the Super Cityif the "community voice" told him to.
"I think there's potential for change," he said. "If the community decides now that it wants to be in the Super City when it comes to Rodney, or if they believe the boundary could be cut in a slightly more appropriate place when it comes to Franklin, then there isa window of opportunity for them."
Last week, Parliament's Auckland governance select committee decided to split the two regions, but Mr Key said the legislation could easily be amended.
The Rodney split found little support at public hearings in July.
