Part of an Upper Hutt road has been washed away in stormy weather leaving residents cut off.
Resident Glenn Fitzgerald said the 1.5m culvert under the private road off Maymorn Rd could not handle the amount of water flowing through it during yesterday's storm.
"There was so much water it would've needed a 5m pipe. It just washed out the pipe that was in there and all the material around it."
Fitzgerald said the washout took their water supply with it.
"We do have some water tanks in our attic, which we're using at the moment, but there is someone working on getting the water connected again today."
