A film about New Zealand's greatest war hero faces an uncertain future now the company that planned to make it has gone bust.
Plans for a film based on the life of World War 2 double Victoria Cross winner Captain Charles Upham were announced in 2006, after Fat and Thin production company bought exclusive international rights to Upham's biography for three years.
However, the movie hit a snag in July when pre-production on the $18 million production was halted because of lack of funds.
On Monday Fat And Thin Productions went into liquidation owing about $1.4 million to creditors, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Despite reassurances the film would go ahead from Fat and Thin yesterday, liquidator Stephen Lawrence, PKF Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Ltd, confirmed shareholders had put the company into voluntary liquidation.
Fat and Thin owed about $1.4 million and a rescue package was being put together, he said.
