Up to 1000 New Zealanders may have been working in or near New York's World Trades Center twin towers when they collapsed, New Zealand consul-general in New York, Jane Cunliffe told NZPA today.
But Ms Cunliffe was quoted as saying that only 400 of the estimated 1000 were known to the consulate.
"There are no doubt people there we don't know about. There are New Zealanders who work for the banks, the broking firms and the investment banks."
Ms Cunliffe told NZPA she did not know of anybody that was confirmed missing.
As yet there have been no reports of New Zealanders killed or injured in the attack.
The consulate was continuing to work through its database of New Zealanders working in New York.
