KEY POINTS:
Auckland University starts a series of pre-election public meetings today with four parties put on the spot over whether tax cuts have blinded the country to more important economic issues.
The panel discussion, at the university's Conference Centre lecture theatre, Symonds St, from 3-5pm, involves Jeanette Fitzsimons of the Greens, Pete Hodgson from Labour, Doug Wollerton of New Zealand First and Craig Foss of National.
It is the first of a series of meetings over the next three Thursdays. Next week at the same time and venue parties will debate whether universal student allowances have ambushed debate on tertiary policy and on October 2, the topic is whether high-profile crimes should drive law and justice policy.
