Mark Weldon, the head of the Stock Exchange, is one of a number of notable New Zealanders being honoured at a ceremony in Auckland tonight.
Auckland University is holding the Alumni of the Year awards, to recognise past graduates who have gone on to succeed in their chosen fields.
Mr Weldon, who is also a former Olympian, says it is a nice feeling to be recognised, as universities play a big part in a person's life.
Others being honoured include Lord of the Rings screenwriter Philippa Boyens, former Speaker of the House Jonathan Hunt, educationalist Judith Aitken, peacekeeper Andrew Thomson and QC David Baragwanath.
