The personal details of more than 4500 past and present students may have been accessed by "unauthorised parties" who allegedly hacked into a University of Auckland server.
An email sent yesterday to 4588 potentially affected people explained that academic transcripts and enrolment information was among the information stored on the server.
The email, from Faculty of Arts Dean Professor Robert Greenberg and IT Services director Elizabeth Coulter, said: "This server is used for holding files attached to a number of Faculty of Arts systems. The majority of the files are copies of academic transcripts.
"Please note that the official transcripts for university graduates are held in the university systems separate to the one compromised."
Communications adviser Tanya Trower detailed the information held on the server.
