The Wairarapa United seconds football team may have to default their opening Capital fourth division match against Waikanae on Saturday through a lack of grounds.
Plans had been to play the game at the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl in Masterton but club president Phil Keinzley said they had been told that with maintenance work currently in progress there, it would not be available for football until probably June, at the earliest.
That left Wairarapa United searching for another suitable venue and with most other grounds in the Wairarapa region already booked for the same day, they still have to find an answer to their problem.
"Right now, we have nowhere to go so, yes, we may be forced to default," Keinzley said yesterday. "It's getting desperate."
The loss of the Sports Bowl as a playing option could also impact on the Wairarapa United premier men's team whose Central League fixture against Lower Hutt City on Sunday is scheduled to be played at Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton and may have to be moved if the weather is wet.
