Wairarapa United are optimistic of making the quarter-finals at the under-19 men's soccer tournament to be hosted by the Upper Hutt club at Harcourt Park this weekend.
For that to happen they will probably need to win at least two of their three pool games against opposition from Upper Hutt, Porirua City and Wainuiomata, something which coach Phil Keinzley believes is within their scope.
Victories over Porirua City and Wainuiomata would certainly be no surprise as Wairarapa United defeated them on their way to winning the B section of the Capital Soccer Ivan England Trophy under-19 competition last month.
Upper Hutt though finished about mid-table in the A section of that competition and Keinzley expects them to be a tough nut to bowl, especially at their own tournament.
However, he believes that playing them first could be to Wairarapa United's advantage.
"They'll be anxious to start well and if we can create doubt in their minds by getting a goal or two up early anything could happen," Keinzley said. "For us it's all about putting them under pressure right from the word go."
