Wairarapa United have two good reasons to produce a quality performance in their central league football match with Tawa at Howard Booth Park, Carterton, on Sunday.
Anything less than a win will severely damage Wairarapa United's chances of taking out the league title for 2011 and it would also mean a less-than-ideal final dress rehearsal for their Chatham Cup quarterfinal seven days later.
In the back of Wairarapa United minds too will be the fact they owe Tawa one as, in their only other meeting this season, it was Tawa who came out on top.
Coach Phil Keinzley is keen for Wairarapa United to show the same commitment they displayed in the second half of their match with Western Suburbs at a wet and slippery Pugh Sports Bowl last Sunday.
Down 3-0 after a lethargic first 45 minutes, they lifted the ante several notches and were actually unlucky not to have scored the fourth goal late in the spell which would, of course, have given them the maximum points.
Wairarapa United will be without Scott Robson and Adam Cowan on Sunday.
Adam Milne will replace Robson in defence, while Campbell Banks will join Seule Soromon up front.
Keinzley expects Tawa to play their usual robust, no-frills style of football and he also anticipates them being well suited to the muddy surface at Howard Booth Park.
"They are not the flashiest team around but they will chase everything hard and trust that we will make mistakes ... "
