Wairarapa United covered themselves in glory yesterday, despite being beaten 6-2 by Napier City Rovers in their second round Chatham Cup clash in Napier
United scored the first goal when Andy Taylor slotted the ball into the net and they were holding City Rovers 1- all 25 minutes into the first half before their star striker Sakeo Valevou was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
It remained 1-1 at halftime with United still with their tails up despite being a man down. However early in the second half City Rovers went ahead before United again hit back with a goal from Carl Shailer.
City then scored again to go into a 3-2 lead, but it wasn't until the last five minutes, when a brave United lineup ran out of steam, that City scored their last three goals. Coach Phil Keinzley was rapt with his team's gutsy performance which he rated their "best ever".
