It was sweet revenge for Wairarapa United when they beat Lower Hutt City 2-1 in their Chatham Cup elimination match at Lower Hutt yesterday.
Just two days previously Wairarapa United had conceded three late goals to lose 3-1 to the same Lower Hutt City squad in a central league fixture but they clearly had the better of them on this occasion, not only scoring two goals but having two others disallowed.
Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley said it was impossible to single out any players for special mention with all players who took the field doing themselves proud.
"They really went up a gear, it was great stuff," he said.
Keinzley had Wairarapa United playing a new format with Adam Cowan, who usually plays in midfield, being the sole striker and it worked brilliantly with Wairarapa United always looking the more likely of the two teams in a game that was locked at 1-1 at halftime.
Cowan and Seule Soromon were the goal scorers.
There was one major surprise in yesterday's other Chatham Cup match with Cup holders and central league leaders Miramar Rangers being on the end of a 5-0 thrashing from Napier City Rovers.
