Wairarapa United will have their final hit-out eight days before beginning their 2011 Central League campaign when they play a "friendly" against Wellington-based Olympic at Carterton tomorrow, kicking off at 2.30pm.
It will be a depleted Wairarapa United squad which will take the field, with the majority of their "imports" not available. Coach Phil Keinzley is understandably more interested in providing his players with valuable match practice than worrying about the final scoreline.
"You always go out there with the intention to win and this will be no different, but we won't be losing any sleep if things don't go our way," Keinzley said yesterday.
"Right now it's more about working on game plans and building fitness, and that's where the focus will be."
Keinzley expects a full strength Wairarapa United team to be on deck for their Central League opener against Lower Hutt Cuty at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval in Masterton next Sunday.
New names then will include Fijian Valerio Nawatu, Somalian Faisal Salad, German Sascha Backer, Manawatu duo Dale Higham and Nathan Cooksley and Scott Robson from Wellington.
The full Central League draw for next weekend is as follows:
Saturday: Miramar Rangers v Western Suburbs, Petone v Palmerston North Marist, Tawa v Maycenvale. Sunday: Olympic v Napier City Rovers, Wairarapa United v Lower Hutt City.
