Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley expects his team to be put through the wringer in their Capital Soccer premier division match with Kapiti Coast United at Kapiti tomorrow.
Unbeaten in their last four games while scoring more goals than any other first division side in the process, Kapiti Coast United are running hot and they will also be taking confidence from the fact they have gone four years without losing to Wairarapa United on home territory.
Adding to the pressure on Wairarapa United too is they are still well in contention for the top spot in the premier division series but with three or four other teams in the same boat they can't afford to drop points at this stage of the season.
Be that as it may, however, Keinzley is intent on his side playing the same attacking style of soccer which has seen them score comfortable wins in their last couple of games.
"We have to play the sort of soccer which suits us best and for us that means taking the game to the opposition," he said. "We have to get on top early and keep it going, that's what this game is all about."
The fact Wairarapa United will be fielding a full strength side has to be in their favour although question marks do remain over the fitness of hard-nosed midfielder Mirek Tvaroh whose leg injury continues to trouble him. Intentions are though to include him in the starting line-up with the hope that he can see out the full game.
The Wairarapa United seconds play University Gossies in a Capital third division match at the Pugh Sports Bowl tomorrow, starting at 2.30pm. Gossies actually head the competition table with 22 points secured from seven wins and none draw while Wairarapa United sit fourth with 13 points gained from four wins and one draw. Both teams have played nine matches.
Feature game in division one of the Wairarapa championship will undoubtedly be that between top teams Carterton Wanderers and Sports Arena Douglas Villa, also kicking off at 2.30pm at the Park Sportsground. Statistics suggest this should be a cracker of a match with Carterton Wanderers sitting on 21 points, having scored 29 goals and conceded 10, and Sports Arena Douglas Villa on 20 points having scored 31 goals and conceded nine.
In other division one games third-placed Trevs Sports Masterton (18pts) might just have the edge on Wairarapa College (11pts) and Featherston (5pts) will be favoured to be McAuleys Masterton (1pt).
Making the pace with 18pts in division two is Carterton Redbacks and they should beat Evergreens (11pts) tomorrow. Douglas Villa Offsiders (16pts) play Masterton Presidents (5pts) and Carterton Skulls (7pts) meet Douglas Villa Magpies (16pts). Carterton Casuals (4pts) have the bye.
