Wairarapa United will be looking to turn the tables when they play Waterside- Karori in the semi-finals of the Hilton Petone men's soccer tournament at Petone on Sunday.
Three times the two teams have met over the past two years and Waterside-Karori have emerged triumphant on each occasion.
And after both teams had been strong contenders for the Capital premier division title through most of last season Waterside-Karori finished the stronger, ending up second with Wairarapa United fifth.
After watching Waterside-Karori despatch Stokes Valley 5-1 in their quarter-final match on Monday night Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley was impressed with the clinical manner in which they turned scoring opportunities into goals.
"They didn't give Stokes Valley a chance, there was pretty much only one team in it," Keinzley said, adding that the Waterside-Karori striker who scored a hattrick in that game had done exactly the same in an earlier match."He's a dangerous player , we'll certainly need to keep him in check," Keinzley said.
The sending off of Waisake Sabutu in their impressive 4-2 win over central league sire Lower Hutt City last Sunday means Wairarapa United will be without the versatile Fijian for their semi-final encounter.
His defection through suspension will see Pita Rabo moving from midfield to combine with Soromon Seule up front and Keinzley will continue his policy of using this Hilton Petone as a chance to experiment with combinations by playing Andy Robertson at left half.
"Obviously the temptation is to go hell bent for victory but we have to take into account too that we need to know what our best combinations are before the club season kicks off," Keinzley said.
"So we will still be doing some juggling with positions even if does detract from our performance to a degree."
